Hi,we have had a house there for last six years and here are my thoughts and opinions on the place. Safety, I think it is safe and have never had an issue with either property or personal safety. Cox is a working town with lots of fruit and veg wholesalers. As a working town it is friendly but doesn't really cater for tourists, although some English is spoken. The town isn't really well served for restuarants, a couple of pizza places and local bars mainly doing lunchtime trade. There are couple of bars in the square and ice cream parlour which is popular with locals on an evening. Good choice of supermarkets with two in town both open all day, and a Consum local at the BP garage that we use a lot. Where Cox scores well apart from great views is great motorway access, Airport in 30mins, Murcia nueva condominia  20 mins( primark,Ikea restaurants etc and tram link to Murcia city centre). Beach at Guardemar or La Marina is 30 mins away. Nearest town with a larger ex pat community is Catral. Each person has different opinions, but for me, the views over the mountains and the ease of access makes it a good choice for us. I hope this has been of use. If you want any more info, happy to help.

Pretty much agree with the last post.  However, I would add that because there are very few foreigners we are very much welcomed, even with our limited Spanish. Being off the tourist trail the prices in bars and restaurants are very low, and quality high. As was said accessibility to motorway and coast is excellent. Benijofar and Ciudad Quesada are close by for all things Brit, if you want a change, as we do and visit once a week. Also Aldi, in Callosa de Segura is 10 only minutes away.

All in all Cox a great place.

Hi when we visted Cox we didnt see many restaurants or bars. I lived the main Square but only saw the ice cream palour and gloriettas, are there more in cox or do you need to ho to callosa? I dont want lots of bars as i like traditional areas but i felt there wasnt any restaurants. We stayed in Benijofar in our friends place, i like it there but id rather traditional food and bars.

Bar Sole (Friday evening includes octopus and pork cheeks etc. all superb.) and Bar Terre (great traditional lunch) are not far from main Street, beside the primary school. Both do traditional Spanish food and menu del dia at great prices. Picollo Italian just off back of Glorieta Square is top class, there are also a couple more Italian restaurants. In Granja there are several within walking distance. The best being Taberna de la Cruz and Restaurante Torre (this is on the Cox Granja ring road, by the petrol station but do not be put off, excellent menu del dia). All the above are traditional Spanish food at €11 for three courses and a drink.  Google for more info.

Hi Restaurant recommendations can be a bit subjective, and as stated before there is more choice at Lunchtime for menu del dia etc,  However IMO the ones we liked in  Redovan were maison de manuel and la cupola , both were open friday evenings if I recall. The pollo asado from Irenes is a popular take away choice especially on Sunday lunchtimes. On a Monday most places close so finding somewhere is a bit more of a task. If you are prepared to drive then the choice of places within 10 -15 mins is larger with restaurants in Catral, Nuevo Condominia(murcia)  Quesada etc. We havent really find much in the town of Orihuela TBF

Before we committed to buying we looked round different areas at different times, we used the campsite at Crevillente La Palmera (a room not in a tent LOL) which was a good well priced base  from where we went to suss out different areas.

hope this gives you some ideas.

Ian.

Hi, we’ve had a holiday apartment for 15years now. I’ve never worried about safety even when on my own. As previously said, it’s a working town away from the “touristy” areas. Have always been welcomed in local bars, restaurants and shops and by Spanish neighbours. It’s very accessible for Alicante airport and to visit the busier areas if you fancy a change. The mountains in the backdrop were one of the attractions for us as well as the more traditional surroundings.
