She certainly can. I cut down the one in the garden right to the soil because it had grown too big. My wife thought I'd killed it off and bought a small one in a pot. She's subsequently re-potted it without any problem and it's thriving. In the meantime, the one in the garden has grown back.

Incidentally, if you use the gel from inside the leaves, use it fairly quickly. It will keep in the fridge for a few days, but after that it goes off.
