Hi we’re in the process of buying in Dream hills and I’ve been given the details of two different solicitors https://www.interealtys.com/ and http://www.abadabogados.com/ does anyone have any experience with either? Also how long does it usually take for the NIE to come through? Thank you

We have no experience with either.

We use https://www.mnostrumlaw.com/index.php/en/ - who are based out of Los Alcazares. Whatever you do, do not go with anyone suggested by the vendor estate agent. Yes, you may not have issues but you should ensure your abogado is 100% independent.

Hi thank you for this advice but what is the reason for it please?

I'm not sure I fully understand the question.

The estate agents fees are paid by the seller so it is in the estate agents interest to get the property sold. So, my concern would be that any recommendation by the estate agent in terms of abogado is not truly independent and may "skim over" issues you would like to know about.

If the query is why Mare Nostrum - well, we used them to get everything set-up etc in our initial Spanish property purchase as we were unfamiliar with the Spanish bureaucracy at the time and they sorted everything out for us including NIE, bank account etc. Of course, that comes with a fee attached but it also comes with peace of mind.

Hi thank you, my question was about the first part. It’s just hard to know which solicitor To go with when we’re in the uk and unable to get over there. Thanks

Hi Net,

When we were buying we used a English based Solicitor with offices in Spain also, we came across them at A Place in the Sun exhibition.

They undertook everything, even arranging the power of attorney when needed, using a Solicitor close to us .

The Company was (E&G Solicitors https://www.solicitorsinspain.com) and our point of contact was Stacey Edgar.

Hi Net

We bought our apartment last July and used a firm called Sun-Lawyers click link, the office was at Cabo Roig and solicitor was Victoria Garcia Lomax, we already had our NIE from previous, if you havent got them then best thing at the moment would be to give power of attorney to the solicitor so they can deal with everything for you its not as staright forward as in the UK, plus make sure you get a Spanish Will done again we used the solicitor its slightly more expensive but saves all the hassle.

Regards

Andrew

Hi thank you for the recommendation. We have begun the process of power of attorney now as we need this military authorisation certificate which is likely to take months.
