Hi

I mentioned before that we are buying a house in Spain but have just found out that because of Brexit we now need military authorisation  has anyone come across this before and if so how long did it take to go through?

Thank you

I have also just been hit with this information this morning. Have to get Military Certificate from Barcelona.  Waiting time up to six months.  This is because of Brexit.  UK now not in EU  we are only allowed to be here until March - 90 day rule.   Cannot return to Spain without Residencia - Covid.   Don't know where that leaves us.

Oh no, we were told three to four months. Let’s hope it’s not that long

Another  consequence of Brexit!  We are currently selling a house in Playa Flamenca to a non EU couple. The sale contract has been written with a completion date of ‘‘on or before May 31st” Our lawyer says this is because by law the Spanish authorities have a maximum of five months to complete the military authorisation.

Although it shouldn’t take that long but with Covid it might.

Lawyer also said this now applies to U.K. nationals as they are no longer EU Citizens.  I’d never heard of this either.

Ah that’s so interesting thank you. It’s such a shame as both the vendors and ourselves are ready to go with no chain so this should have been so quick and easy.

Me (the purchaser) and the vendors too. Everything was ready to go.  What a nightmare.  Should have been in new house within a couple of weeks.     Paperwork as far as i knew was complete.  Spanner in the works.    For Military authorisation,   (talk of this taking 6 months to obtain)  this involves purchaser now having to obtain Criminal Record clearance from UK,  gov website should help direct you to correct site.  As i am in Spain just now,  I have additional problem of i don't have time to play with as i do not yet have Residencia i should have to leave Spain in March - 90 day rule.   Even giving lawyer POA i may not be able to return indefinitely, (if only residents allowed back into Spain).    Huge headache and stress.   Beware potential future buyers.

Oh that’s such a pain, I hope you get it all sorted soon. Yes we’ve had to get a notary and we’ve done our DBS checks at the weekend so are waiting for them to come back.
