Corona - do you believe all you see on the news?

I would be the first to support measures that reduce the risk of infection by any disease but I do feel uncomfortable with a lot of what is being put out by the various news sources both Spanish and English. News is money and bad news sells best!

1. Daily deaths from all causes in UK: a quick Google search suggests in the last four years that the average daily deaths lies around 2,600 or a bit higher. This is far more than the TOTAL death toll in UK from the outset of Corona. Why such a major news item then? Yes, probably because of the speed at which the virus is passed on and the lack of sound scientific facts. Partly understood phenomena around us usually provoke the greatest fear?

2. Just a small comment on a small building in London seen on Sky. A new morgue a little bit bigger than a small house to house all London's victims? Are Corona deaths not allowed ordinary funerals? Where do they dispose of the other 2600 bodies in England? Misleading or fake news?

3. Finance: lots of political comment to help those put out of work. It would appear that any financial assistance will be in the form of loans - holidays on mortgages, suspension of rents etc. How the hell will these poor people repay when the crisis is over? Economic activity always has two ends (like string!). A buy-to-let landlord who doesn't get his rent may be repossed when he has no income to pay his mortgage. Some live on their income from renting. Restaurants and shops forced to close - yes suspension of uitlity bills and mortgages - but all to be repaid later - if the poor business owner has not already been made bankrupt - a very nasty process in Spain and in most cases a life sentence unlike England! He might well have starved to death by then with little savings and no income.

I could go on and on about such inconsistencies but will see first what feedback I get!

A.P.

I don't think you can legitimately attempt to coorealate ordinary every day deaths due to age, natural causes, accident etc. with extraordinary and premature deaths directly attributable to the virus.

True most who have succumbed to it will have been elderly or otherwise vulnerable but it's quite posible that but for the virus they might have lived for many more years so the numbers have to be taken in that context.

Whilst part of me thinks the monetary system was already due to collapse as its just a huge pyramid of debt, what better way of shifting the blame from the International Bankers, half of me wonders if this virus is worst than they are telling us.

They claim it has a mortality rate of 3.4% as opposed to normal flu which has a mortality rate of 0.1% and look how many thousands die of that each year!

But when I look at the figures, it looks to me as the mortality rate is over 10%, not 3.4.

Here are Spains figures for today,  :-  "The number of deaths has also increased to 767, while the number of cured stands at 1,107 ".

Globally as of right now, the number of those who have recovered is 88,607 whilst the number who have died is 10,069

So if mortality rates are based on the difference between the infected who recover and the infected who die, and if unchecked would have infected as many as ordinary flu, that is a lot of people!

The good news though is China appeared to have completely stopped its spread, which indicates their somewhat draconian measures, (welding peoples doors shut so they cannot get out!),  either that or they already developed the Vaccine and are not sharing with the rest of the World?

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Probably some truth or at least they think it is saving them from doing something similar.
