Hi,

I’m due to exchange (swap) car rentals on Tuesday at Alicante airport,

Before I do the obvious and call the rental company I wondered if anyone here actually knows the lockdown restrictions that might prevent me from travelling to the airport and back.

I.e. the fact that I need to return a rental or presumably face a fine in my mind is essential travel.

I’ve seen the official quote about travel to supermarkets work etc so no need to quote the general statement

Thanks in advance

We are too  I have emailed car hire firm and third party who we booked it with since Monday no reply as yet we are going to keep our car as all our flight s also are cancelled and we are classing it as non essential travel and we can’t leave house

Forgot to say all car hire offices have to close ordered by government  apparently and you can only drop off

I spoke to the rental company (Firefly) at Alicante-Elche.

they were as helpful as they could be considering

It turned out (not sure if it’s changed yet) that only one person can be in the car for a return or pick up of a rental. Unless you are returning to your primary residence.

I exchanged cars on Tuesday without any issues.

Just take your paperwork and ID to prove your travel is “necessary”.

I think that the airport rental office is still open but you drop your keys in the drop box and leave paperwork in the car on return.
