Hello, I have been holidaying in La Sella for the past 10 years and think it is a wonderful place. I have just returned today from a lovely two weeks in a villa near the golf course. My children and I discovered a small colony of up to 6 cats/ kittens living near the golf course (I can give exact details). They are terribly thin and helpless really and we took pity and fed them twice a day. These cats are too timid to come into gardens to cause mess , all they need is feeding once/ day and they deserve that.

I was wondering whether anyone was already their caretaker or if not would anyone be willing? We are so worried about them, surely they can’t be left to die?

I do understand that there are many of these colonies all over Spain but I also know that many have human caretakers.

Please, can anyone help? I can send money for food!

Thank you.

Hi Emma,

That's very kind of you.  Sadly, as you say, there are many such colonies.  Some Town Halls work with vets and volunteers to feed the cats, gain their trust and neuter or spay them, in an effort to control the population.  In Guardamar, near where I live, it's against the local bye-laws for anyone except the designated volunteers to feed the cats.  It may be worth checking with the local Town Hall whether they run such a scheme.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you, I will do that and then come back to the forum. I hate to see animals suffer when for very little time abs money they could live an ‘ok’ life and, when strong enough help the community by keeping vermin under control.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Emm
