Dose anyone else in Mojácar think the same as me when I say the amount of dog poo left on the streets pavements and beach is disgusting?

The local council must get strict with these dog owners who refuse to pick up when walking the dog ( and you know who you are) I think a 100€ fine or more should be imposed on any dog owner that dose not pick up.

Also make it compulsory to have the dog permanently on a lead when walking , this way no dog owner can confess to not knowing that the dog has pooed

Ok that’s my rant out or the way and have a great summer all

It's a Spanish thing and they don't give a shxx. Also should be fined if they are not carrying poo bags.

what amazes me is the amount of dog poo that has been trod in don't they look where they walk?  We have a back road to our complex and the tourists with their dogs use it as a convenient doo toilet area where they can walk away and leave it to fester by our gated entrance.  We also have a herd of deer that come down from the hills and they let their dogs chase them and encourage it.   rarely see them interacting with the dog either when walking them don't know why they have one really.

It is compulsory (by law) to have a dog on lead in public spaces in spain. It is also, in law, a requirement to pick up excrements. Both offences carry heavy fines. I  many towns it is now a requirement to carry a waterbottle with vinegar etc to dilute pee (the mutt's, not the owner's).

On several occasions I have pointed out the lead-issue to owners, and I can assured you it is not a sole 'spanish' issue,  I have spoken to many north europeans,  and surprisingly many british.

You should take photos of dog, owner, offending poo, note the place, preferably owners name, and report to AlertCop (via app). Complaining up the ether won't get much done unfortunately .

1. Let’s blame the Spaniards! Typical shout of non caring English speaking peoples. It’s rubbish of course because many dog owners don’t give a whit about anybody. (See several threads on the subject on this forum where I contributed).

2. Well prove it Matttie, Old Cock! You already have it here on this thread (above) where dog owners blatantly exercise their dogs in public places and refuse to use mandatory dog leads and consequently are not in full control of their dogs.

3. The beaches in  Mojacar are supposed to be dog free all year round. See the many signs indicating this. Yet the uncaring dog owners (lawbreakers) insist it’s  only the summer months that dogs are banned.Dr Goebbels himself couldn’t come up with such propaganda.

4. To be fair, I’ve seen good dog caring owners cleaning up after their dog has dropped its load. I commend them for this.

5, Here’s the trick that you’ll see often on Mojacar Playa’s Paseo:- Lovely lady walking her dog and she is on her mobile phone which is switched off and she is pretending to be talking with someone. Meanwhile Bailey, Brandy or Fido is dropping his load 30 yds behind. Lovely Lady has dog lead strewn over her shoulders like a medical student pretending to be a doctor with a stetescope over his shoulders. She can claim she hasn’t seen her dog “performing” and if you inform her she’ll fire torrents of abuse at you eg “ Why don’t you go back to the Yew Kaye?”

6. Then there’s the brigade on here who’ll defend dogs no matter what, even the dogs that have savaged people. I kid you not.

7. Blaming the local authorities is folly. They can’t patrol the roads and beaches all day long. But, Mojacar has a lady mayor who’s sick of uncaring animal lovers breaking the laws. It’s only a matter of time before she sets the Policia Local on the matter.

8. While I’m on the subject, I wish to commend the restaurant owners who have banned dogs from their terraces and restaurants. Dogs should never be let near eating areas. Try telling that to the uncaring dog owners!.

9. To dog owners who obey the laws and clean up after their dogs, I commend you and I know you hold the uncaring lawbreakers in the same opinion as Ol’ Matt. Also, I know these good people are trying to restore the good reputation of good dog owners sullied by the uncaring and couldn’t give a whit brigade.

no Lady Mayor in Mojacar anymore Matthew.

As for peeing in the streets in our community they let their darling fur babies wee in the lifts and leave the pungent puddles for the cleaning lady to deal with and the rest of us to tread in unknowingly when entering them.

Spanish owner of two dogs at BP garage today had muzzles and leads on but her idea of training was kick dogs in ribs when they jump up and smack them across the nose!  good job they had muzzles on or she may find herself bitten one day.

As for dogs on the beach when we advised that it was not allowed we were told we were wrong and it is in the winter!

Thankfully we never go on the sand now so when said dogs poop and it is left in the sand for the treading in by unsuspecting tourists it is their problem.

We bring our dog out regularly to Mojácar and always ensure that our dog poo is picked up wherever we walking -  that is what responsible owners do.

Some of the streets are disgusting and some owners don’t seem to care - it’s the owner who should be responsible and should encourage the dog not to poo in public places. In  my view there needs to be more awareness and consequences publicised (signage) to encourage better owner behaviour.I will always pull up any dog owner whose dog is doing its business in public and take photos if there is no positive response. Perhaps if there were dog poo bins in some of the worst areas (as we have in England) that it would start to encourage proper disposal and more use of poo bags. Some irresponsible owners are getting ALL dogs a bad name and that needs to stop.

They will be wild goats which look very similar to roe deer.  There are no wild deer in Almeria.  In other parts of Andalucia, like Jaén province you can find them in Cazorla and the Sierra Morena.

The dogs do no harm in chasing these animals away.  These wild goats do a lot of damage to young tree plantations and are usually only seen when the droughts force them down from their habitat in the mountains to search for pasture in the lowlands.

beg to differ but there are wild deer in Spain (we have also seen wild goats and they are completely different)  and it is not good when the dogs chase them in an the area where they are eating the rough bushes and grasses and there are no crops around.  Next thing is we will have hunters shooting at them.

The issue of dog fouling brings all us dog owners into disrepute. I own two dogs and I exercise them in public every day. For years I have been correcting many dog owners/minders who leave their dogs destroy our walkways and even allow their dogs to threaten good people.

Let’s face it, dog owners (including me) should have really tackled these problems ourselves. Why should people who do not have dogs have to do our work for us? I have found in recent times that most dog owners are becoming more responsible.

All it takes is.us good owners to correct the irresponsible. I’ve found the friendly approach works best. You’ll get the brigade who’ll reject such friendly approaches. These people are bullies and couldn’t give a whit about anybody. I’ve found the mobile phone camera to be helpful in such circumstances. Cameras don’t lie. The use of camera phones can be intimidating, but so what! When all fails don’t feel guilty of bullying the bully. They can’t stand this as there is potential for a prosecution so let’s stop apologising for being right and keep doing what is right.
