Hi,

Does anyone know how to keep the wasps away from the swimming pool. We seem to have at least 20-30 wasps around the pool everyday and I like to swim alot. Is there some way to control the little buggers.

Have exactly the same problem Sandra. I have tried all the advised methods, alternative water source, herbs, WD-40, the lot. The only thing that has worked a bit is fairy liquid to break the water tension, which makes a few sink. But they are quickly replaced by their brethren. If I put anymore liquid in, I’ll be having an Ibiza foam party!

I must say, these wasps don’t sting, and people say I should just man up and leave them alone. But these wasps haven’t paid for the pool, so I don’t see why they should enjoy it more than me! I want them dead!

If you find anything that works, please share the advice!

Place an ornamental water feature ( of your design) eg: bubbling water, drenched rocks, etc, etc away from the pool. V

Hi

Are there fruit trees, or many flowers in your garden, or around? The wasp is a predator of many parasitic insects, such as aphids, flies, etc.

That said, I see a solution to your problem. Yes, they come to drink in your swimming pool, but because the water is flat; if the water is moving, the wasp will not be able to drink but will drown because it does not land on the water, but lands on an edge to approach the water and drink. So create a continual movement of water, and create another space for the wasps to spot and come to rest and drink from safely.

And take care of their nest, don't approach to them. 1.5m near the nest, and they attack you. In case of bite, spit on some clay (that of our soils) and place it on the bite. The clay sucks out the venom, and the pain goes away quickly.

My neighbour makes open fires burning coffee powder - it helps.

Thanks for all your suggestions, unfortunately I have tried most of them to no avail.

I'll just stick to the middle of the pool  untill I can find something.

I will let you know if I do.

Thanks
Sandra
