Electricity costs per day

I think the owner is trying to make you aware that if you leave the heating on and go out you will use up your allowance and there will be a bill for extra electricity.Same thing habppens in the summer people switch on the air cool and go out coming back many hours later.Heating or cooling uses a lot of electric.

Do you mean that she allows you to consume 10 KW “consistently” for a 24 hour period ?.  You would really have to go out of your way to use all that power. 

Hi, The average usage for electriciity in the UK is indeed 10Kw/h per day. So think she is being reasonable to ask for a payment for anything you use over that limit. I think this is not unusual for rentals in Spain. I guess it would be a lot of hassle for her to claim this money through Airbnb.

Seems fair to me. You don't appear to use a lot of power and I assume you wouldn't want to be paying extra rental to subsidise those renters that leave the heating/aircon on all day, even when they're away from the property.

10Kw allowance per day should be more than enough, especially if this is averaged over the entire rental period. There may be certain days when you exceed this but this will be balanced when you're out for the day and use less.

That is normal for rentals in Spain.

    assuming you did the booking through AirBNB the extra charge should have been listed in the contract you agreed with them. It may well be reasonable to limit the use of utilities but any additional charges should have been advised up front. If this was not mentioned when you made the booking then you can either accept the charge or raise the issue with AirBNB. You could wait to see what sort of charge materialises.

I would have been with you thinking it odd and a bit fishy, so good to hear from others that sounds normal for here, in case I come across it myself.

Thank you all for reacting. We didn’t have a good experience at a previous Airbnb in Alicante, so that’s why I am asking. But if barely use the heater than it sure must be ok. Again thank you all and I will make sure to stay updated on this forum.
