Thank you so much.  The only thing we struggling with is NIE form which everyone seems to want here.  Am trying to find Vet but they keep asking for this form.  We also need to sort doctors out as well, some advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Elaine,

The NIE is kind of like a National Insurance number that we have for life in the UK. You can get an NIE if you are resident or non-resident in Spain, everyone needs to have one (as you have found out!)

It is now quite easy to get one and your NIE and Residence application, if you don't have one yet, can be done with one form at any National Police Station with a foreigners department. The main town hall (Ayuntamiento) in your area should be able to tell you more. It can take a couple of weeks to get an NIE number.

There is quite a good explanation on this website here about why we need NIE numbers: http://suitelife.com/2014/05/09/spanish-nie-number-detailed-guide/

Hope this helps.

Hi

Have a look on the Citizens Advice Spain website there is loads of useful information on there regarding NIE, Residencia, Cars, etc.

I am quite a newbie I moved here last year. I brought my dog with me, I had to register his microchip here and he has a Spanish Identity card as well as his UK passport and his Greyhound papers.
