We are bringing our dog to the Torrevieja area next month and would like to know the best/safest places

to dog walk and which beaches are dogs allowed to walk on?  Thanks for any recommendations/advice.

According to Costa Blanca People, Cala del Moro is a designated dog beach.

Don’tt worry about the beach, you can walk along the beautiful boardwalk from La Mata town to the edge of Torrevieja. Lovely restaurants that you can stop at and enjoy the sunshine and a refreshment. We are lucky enough to have several good walking areas in this location. Dogs are permitted onto the beach off season but forbidden during the summertime.  Some of the designated dog acceptable beaches aren’t making people with their dogs welcome so it may be wiser not to alienate yourself. There is a fabulous walk along the cliff edge at La Zenia. Torrevieja town is lovely for a walk all the way from the town to Los Locas. Forget the beach and use the boardwalks! No sand all over the car when returning home.

I totally agree with you, the walk along the Boardwalk in Torrevieja with a stop for a coffee to people watch, or for pure scenery the coastal walk between Playa Flamenca and Cabo Roig are better options.

Just another thought about your dog.

If your dog has a heavy coat which requires clipping, make sure that he has it done before coming to the strong sun and intense heat. My cousin lives in Spain and has a beautiful labradoodle and she says that the footpaths can be so hot that it burns her dog’s paws. The only answer to this is to walk your dog in the shade if possible.

I am reliably informed that you can buy dog boots! This makes you smile just thinking about it but if your poor dog burns the soles of his paws, then you would try anything to prevent this.

I have seen dog boots on sale in many places, we also got a product called Musher's Secret which is a wax product designed to give paw protection to Huskies in the snow but works the same for protecting them in the sun.

I live in La Siesta and love walking my dog down by La Mata lake now the caterpillars have all gone. We also walk across the park and down to La Mata for coffee and a walk on the boardwalk. It’s just lovelybto be able to go out for a nice walk every day under blue skies

On the subject of caterpillars, they are not gone, we are just coming into their season. they were spotted early this year due to the milder Winter but the main period for them is through April to June.

Oh I didn’t realise this. All the nests in our park are now empty and they have sprayed the area. We saw a few lines of them in early March but none since

Hi - thanks very much for your really helpful reply.  We arrived and have already done the La Mata walk - very nice.  We have also done the walk to Punta Prima.  Thanks for the other recommendations too. :)
