Hi , we are moving to Spain soon, what are the best banks to use, we have googled alot and noticed they seem to charge you for everything, even for just having an account.

Any suggestions

Unfortunately as with many other topic, broadband, car hire, British TV to name but three, when it comes to banking it can be a case of 'one man's meat being the next man's poison' a situation not in the least mitigated by frequently finding different treatment by different branches of the same bank!

In truth then it's very difficult to recommend any actual banking group over and above, personal recommendation on a branch level is what's required.

We also use our local Sabadell at Los Montesinos. All the tellers speak perfect English but most of all they are very professional in carrying out their duties. Bank charges are what they are, as long as you receive the service.

Hi I’ve just gone through this, having just completed on an apartment in Villamartin. I was able to skip opening a traditional account and instead have done everything with TransferWise , which is one of the new online electronic banks. It supports DD’s and allows you to have a Euro account that allows you to transfer from GBP at a super competitive rate. I did speak to Sabadall but found no reason to open a traditional bank account and pay the charges.

I agree with Craig.

I am non res and been with Bankia/Caja Murcia for almost 20 years

I have also had a Transferwise account since just after their formation, maybe 8 or 9 years ago ?

It is only recently that Transferwise has started to support direct debits, I have moved them from Bankia to Transferwise and will close my account with Bankia when next over in June.

Good customer support over the phone if needed.
