Thank you

You certainly can open a bank account here and you don't need to have a property to be able to do it.

You will probably need to be present at the bank to sign all the paperwork and prove who you are.

Don't forget that non residents are charged quite heavily on Spanish bank accounts.

If your friend is thinking about living in Spain then a Spanish account with some cash deposited regularly will help them with the application for a visa for residency.

Your friend will need an N.I.E number to open a bank account

I've just opened an account with Sabadell prior to moving here in a few weeks. It's a non-residents account for now, but will be exchanged for a residents account when I have a residency card. I don't have a NIE number yet - my lawyer is applying for that for me. So not needed to open a bank account.

Apologies for stating an N.I.E is needed for opening a bank account, that was my understanding but obviously not the case !

Yes you can as we did it last year. You need an NEI number first, then an address. We got our number then got a long term rental then the bank account. All has been fine for the last year. Hope this helps.
