Hi all,Thinking of opening a Transferwise account to avoid the high charges from the Spanish banks. I currently have a Sabadell Key account, so get charged approx €35 a quarter. I am a non resident living in the UK and have a holiday place inVillamartin. I’ve seen that it’s no problem setting up Direct Debits from the Transferwise account for utility bills etc. Can the Transferwise account be a Joint account? Do I have to give a Spanish address? Will the ATM card be mailed to my UK address? Are the charges at ATMs steep for withdrawing cash? What is their customer service like?

Any negative aspects to Transferwise?

Thanks in advance

Ian

Q1..No they don't do joint accounts. My wife and I want one too.

Q2..You don't need to supply an address only bank details.

Q3..Yes they will post a card to your UK address.

Q4. You can only withdraw €200 per month without being charged for withdrawal. I seem to remember its quite a hefty amount.

Q5.. I've never had to use their customer service so can't comment.

I've been using Transferwise for 7 years and never had a problem. Transfers are done within seconds from my Barclays UK bank to Sabadell here in Benidorm.

Hi tebo

Thanks for all your responses to erniemossity , I am in the same situation with sabadel and bank charges, I understand I have to set up a border less euro a/c as well to pay my direct debits, so do I transfer Sterling they convert and pay my bills in euros, and once I fund the account with enough to cover my bill then close my sabadell bank a/c I have internet access to all my payees via my iPad but don’t have a smart phone ( can’t use them I have tried) would that be a problem with any app requirements?

Thanks

Bre

Hi erniemossity

I have a Sabadell, Starling and Transferwise accounts now that people are having problems with Starling DD's I have set up these with Transferwise, my issue is yes there are 140 euros a year to pay in charges but you can draw 650 euros a day plus any credit will be easier to set up with a Spanish bank if needed.

We are probably never going back to Europe in my generation so I am weighing up is it really worth messing around with all these other accounts when you can keep all the Spanish stuff in one place and with a local bank decisions decisions..!!

Regards

Andrew

Hi Trotter

With the standard account you only get 3 free withdrawls a month and no telephone helpline you have to have the smart account for that and its 4.90 per month.

Hi thanks for the info. Can DDs be set up on the N26 standard acct? I've got Iberdrola, Naturgy and Hidraqua.

Hi trotter

Do you not have to be resident in Spain for the N26 account, I know they ask for an address to post the card to, I think another member mentioned this 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Yeh, that was my concern with the N26 account....I believe they need a Spanish address to post your card to, and unfortunately I dont want to rely on the postal system

Thanks for the info....you say you used a local card shop for the address...was this someone you know, or is it common practice for some shops to offer this service?
