Hi, we have a well established lemon tree with lemons on it at the moment. When do you prune the tree and any advice on how to go about it.

How lovely.  Hope you’ve been making good use of them.  🍹🍋🍋

According to our Spanish neighbours,  January is the best time to prune fruit trees.

I would suggest looking at some utube videos on the method though as “how to” depends on how old etc...😊

I agree with the previous posters, except our trees aren't continuous cropping but do have two crops a year.

I do ours any time in winter, as does the lemon farmer next door.

I take off high growth completely, and any long growth - basically I just tidy it up to make it look neat. Then I get underneath and remove any growth that's going inwards. Basically I'm aiming for an umbrella shape with plenty of space in the middle.
