Health Centre / Surgery in Villamartin?

Moving to Villamartin some time later this year and my main concern is how easy it would be to continue to receive my current medication.  Is there a local health centre / doctor's surgery, similar to the UK? Anyone have any experience of how easy it is to get appointments etc?  Not sure where our exact location would be as we are still looking for a 2 bed apartment, preferably with a fair amount of ex-pats to socialise with. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Rachel,

We moved here on 12th November, and have just received our medical cards today. There was a delay because we had to get 3 months bank statements to prove what our UK pensions were. They have to be original statements with your name and address on. You are able to purchase medicines without a prescription, so I have been doing so. Once the doctor has given me a prescription, as a pensioner, I won't have to pay. Some medicines are cheap, some expensive. I suggest you ask in a pharmacia, they are very helpful. The doctors/medical centre for all of the Orihuela Costa is in Cabo Roig. I live in Playa Flamenca and can get a bus from Zenia Boulevard. The bus also goes to Villamartin. The state hospital is Torrevieja, and again the bus goes there.

Our lawyer did all the running around for us, so getting the residencias and health cards wasn't a problem, just a little time consuming. I know what it's like to move to a strange place now, so I will be very happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hi we have been told as we are not 65 yet we have to have private medical ins before we can get our residencias ,have you heard this , I can buy my medication so no worries there .carol
