We had the very sad misfortune to be burgled last night between 8pm / 10.30pm whilst out

We live on la finca golf @ calle benferri which is a gatted community we have family over and we’ve had jewellery IT equipment and money stolen

They came through the back bedroom window smashing the shutter to bits and then breaking the window

Looks like as we were the only ones living our side and have to back grills they choose us!

We’ve only been here 5 months and had the car done before Christmas @ la marina and now this

Don’t want sympathy But wanted to let the community know

Yours sincerely

Ian Barton

Very sorry to hear about that Ian. I know how upsetting this can be for people. Its a horrible thing to have happened.

I hope your insurance company is sympathetic and helpful.

Best regards,  Steve

Just a general thought for the forum...... Going along the lines of neighbourhood watch, because these crooks tend to target certain areas (& then move on). How about a page listing areas that have been broken into. EG: location. Time of day. Etc. (No other details req'd) Then people know which areas are being targeted. Pre-warned igual: pre-armed. Acumaltive info can also aid the authorities. Just a thought, what u think? Admin? Villas.

Hi I’ve just seen this sorry been very busy since our robbery, I think it’s a great idea however like on here there seems to be no passion to try and stop these horrible crimes it appears that everyone has ever personally been victim or knows someone whose be victim to these crimes

It’s about time we all woke up and fought back, yes I know I’m responsible for my families protection and believe me I will be doing just that but let’s try and stop the next victim where we can

Sorry to hear your misfortune and it’s certainly not a nice thing to happen to anyone anytime!

For the sake of approx 40euro a month our Spainish Alarm is linked to central office 24/7 and they notify the police if anything untoward is going on......and it works!

I know the horse has bolted now but you learn from your mistakes eh?

I also went overboard with fake cameras ( very convincing ones) as well as real ones etc which you can check on devices worldwide.

Also and I think one of the best is putting beware dog signs up etc....they don’t like dogs generally and weather you have a dog or not the burglers will rather go next door who haven’t got signs!

The harder you make it the less likely they will bother with you....and also alerting neighbours etc always helps as more eyes or always better!

Iam sure you have probably done most of this but maybe one small thing might help?

One last thing we do is have a timer on a standard lamp with low watt bulb that is on every dusk to dawn and looks like someone is in and up regardless and costs pennies a year to leave on weather it’s a holiday home or permanent.

Good luck and like someone else has said it can happen anywhere in the world and we have found it always feels a lot safer generally here then say The UK!

Regards

BB

Good Advice. Any deterrent is better than none. Along-side the timed light, also timed radio (cheap transistor) music or speech.

Movement detetction cameras are good. Straight to your mobile, or anybody elses of your choice. Most are now HD quality. infra-red (night vision) about 50-60 €.

Thank you for your comments, the annoying thing was we had an alarm that was connected to call centre ( just hadn’t been transferred to new owners ( us )! All upgraded and sorted now but again painful lesson to have had again I’d urge anyone new to think security safety first.... legalities living in Spain can wait unfortunately as I’ve stated we’ve done it the other way round

Still I’m a great believer in these things happen and it’s Shame on the criminals first time.... if it happens again the shame will be on me!!
