Apologies in advance if I am duplicating the subject matter, but I have received some comments about people being charged upwards of €250 for checking their vehicle and purchasing the necessary vehicle sticker. I hate people being ripped off!

The web link to check your vehicle is HERE - https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/vehiculos/distintivo-ambiental

On this page you will see 4 blue circles and just below these circles there is box for entering your vehicle registration (Ingresa al registro para consultar) and a blue button that reads 'Consultar'

Simply put your vehicle registration into the box, without spaces between the numbers and letters and press the blue button to the right.

Once you have done this the correct sticker relating to that vehicle registration will be displayed. So now you know and it is FREE to do this. Please do not be scammed into paying someone to do this for you!

You can order your sticker online with the Post Office (Correos), it will cost you €5 (possibly plus a little bit of postage) and the website for that is HERE - https://www.correos.es/es/es/particulares/para-el-ciudadano/servicios-de-la-dgt/distintivo-medioambiental

IF you prefer, you can take your vehicle registration documents to a post office and they will issue the relevant sticker to you, again this will only cost €5.

There are many websites about this Low Emission Zone topic and one of the most trusted sites for this, and other such topics in Spain is the N332 website (N332.es). Here is one webpage link to this topic https://n332.es/how-will-low-emission-zones-be-managed-in-spain/

I appreciate that at the moment this scheme may not be up and running, but for a little amount of your time and €5 you can protect yourself from inadvertently getting a fine (being mentioned as €200+)

Hope it helps!

Further to the original post, you need registration document plus photograph ID (driving licence or TIE) to obtain the sticker.

If you prefer to check to see which sticker you require in English then you can do so here

You can order direct from the site. Cost is 6.50€ and delivery takes a couple of days- that how I did mine.

At the moment the scheme hasn’t started in the local municipalities, they have until the end of the year to implement it.

Hi,

I’ve accessed the website and entered my vehicle’s registration. It comes up with the following message… “Without badge. Your vehicle does not meet the requirements to be labeled as a clean vehicle”.

Does anyone know what the implications of this are? Can I drive the car? It is ITV’d until June. Will I have to scrap the vehicle? It is a 2004 Renault Espace diesel.

It just means you will be restricted from entering the Low Emission Zone areas of any place that has more than 50,000 people living there...

NOTE - As and when the schemes are ACTUALLY brought into force.

Today is the official day.... the reality is likely to be different.

You do not have to scrap the vehicle!

So, from LaZenia, I will not be able to drive into Torrevieja?

Please keep calm, there is nohting definete yet. There is (only) a law regulating how every council has to proceed for implementing a low emission zone, and this will take it's time. The Hight Court overruled not too long ago the low emission zone in Madrid, so it's obvious that others will follow. Furthermore, there will be exemptions (handicapped etc).

Once in practice  if you have not got a sticker including those not eligible for a sticker you will not be able to drive into the low emission zone of any municipality with a population of more than 50k.. So local places that people drive into  the likes of Torrevieja, Orihuela, Murcia, Cartagena, Elche, Alicante, Benidorm etc etc you cannot enter without the risk of a fine. The  zones will be signposted as per all the links above at the entry points.  It affects all of Spain, but we all now how the autonomous communities like to interpret the rules differently

Except for some of the larger cities, who have been running this scheme for some time, this has not yet been put into practice and the ayuntamiento have until the end of the year to implement it. They haven’t even decided on how big or small the areas will be.

This explains everything clearly and will answer all your questions - specific to Torrevieja

I guess these stickers can only be got for Spanish Reg vehicles. If the law comes into effect in the likes of Torrevieja it’d be seeminhard to police foreign Reg cars
