Well, there's a lot there to take in. Are you moving permanently or just, as you say, for the week or weeks you will be coming over?
You mentioned a visa so I assume you are from GB and would need a visa to stay permanently. If just a week or weeks then you don't need a visa and can stay for 90 days in a period of 180 days or 6 months in one year providing you don't do more than 90 in 180.
Again, mentioning the visa and work, you wouldn't be able to work with a Non Lucrative Visa. Plus., at your age, you would need private medical insurance to cover you to at least the level of cover provided by the Spanish NHS with no co-payments.
After a year you can go on the convenio especial which gives you full access to the NHS at 60 euro a month which covers everything except the cost of prescriptions.
Also be aware, as you mentioned coming over for a week or weeks, that there are restrictions on how long you can be away from Spain if you apply to become a resident. That is no more than 10 months away in the first 5 years so you can show your commitment to becoming resident.
Places to buy. The nearer the coast generally the most expensive withbeachfront even more so. There are plenty of towns inland which are cheaper and many have large expat and Spanish people living there. Most are well served with supermarkets and other places and are not far from beaches.
You mentioned air BNB. Do you mean you would put your property up with them? You should then be aware of the time you are allowed to leave Spain for and the need to get a tourist licence for renting short term. Plus the income from renting, as will all your world wide income, needs to be declared if you stay permanently and will be taxed in Spain.
Look on the Costa Blanca map and pick a town you think might suit like Gran Alacant or La Mata and so on. Then look at things like Kyero or RightMove and see what is available. Once you have found something suitable, come back on ask on here about the particular town and you will receive many replies on what the area is like, what facilities it has and so on.
Good luck with your plans.

Hi, I have looked at lots and lots of destinations in Spain to move to in the next year but have come to the conclusion that Alicante /surrounding areas will be the best place for me due to the availability of flights all year round from north east and lovely places within 30 minutes of Alicante air...Read more...
...port So here goes 😊 I will be 53/54 and moving alone with my 3 dogs - 2 very old collies and a young Cockapoo I presently can’t drive on medical grounds after a rta , I am praying that might change in time - neuros are not the best for wanting to speak to you after your diagnosis 🙈🙄 So I need to be within walking distance to things like doctors and place to buy fresh produce etc normal day to day stuff, I don’t mind if I had to cycle to the beach or have a 15-20 minute walk there Ideally I would, like a house with a bit of outside space with a pool or space for a pool and for the dogs, fresh, grow fruit/veg - an annex would be good or the house or just big enough to maybe do air bnb rooms once I am settled if I fancy doing some work and to keep me a little busy - that side I haven’t decided on - but not too big like a farm 🐮 🐑 I do want to mix with expats as well as mixing into the spanish community and go to classes to Improve on the language as well as having outdoor activities to do with groups , I don’t want to isolate myself I will initially come over and rent so I can have the time to find the right property in the right place to buy - I am going to be regularly flying over from now until mid next year to check out some of the areas that I get advised as good areas for me before I come out longer term and then permanently I am aware of the visa situation, so financially there aren’t any issues with that - I just need to find the best area All recommendations of area suitable for me is very much appreciated and I would be happy to meet up with anyone that would be happy to meet up with me when I come out for weekends or weeks in the near future Thanking you all in advance for any advice you can throw my way to save me looking in wrong places 😍
Are you the person who had set your heart on Gandia, that you were going to move to with your daughter and granddaughter? The person I spent a lot of time at the weekend sending detailed information to?
