Update, but not regarding Spain:

Turkey will open its borders for International tourists end of May, with International tourist flights starting beginning of June .

As it stands the borders are closed and flights being available from 17th June is more in hope by the airlines than any hint from the Spanish government. The Canary Islands and the Balearics are talking about letting in tourists from Germany and Austria and some other nations, including Greece ar...

...e talking about flights between countries that have been least affected but the UK is the bogey man in Europe at the moment so I don't hold out much hope for changes any time soon. It seems as if summer 2020 has mainly been written off by the tourist industry already.
Of course this may change but I think Spain will at least wait to see if a second wave hits us or the UK before making any decisions to open up the borders fully.

I actually think that the most important figure regarding COVID is the current infection rate and not the death toll in each country .All countries seem to count their victims in different ways so the figures we are regularly supplied with are misleading to say the least.

Any border crossing should be based on each individuals health and not a whole countries deaths.

I believe that common sense will prevail, eventually in Spain too...

Yes, I agree, it is like comparing apples to oranges but there is no doubt that the UK have also failed to count many who have died at home and not been tested, talk is over 40,000 being the true figure. Having been in a much stricter lockdown than the UK for so long I hope to God that Spain doesn't start letting people in from countries where the infection rate is higher than ours. The ONLY reliable test would be one made just before passport control in Spain and then anybody testing positive....what then? Does Spain have to pay for the quarantine because who is going to want to fly on the return journey with someone who has just tested positive? The passengers on a recent flight were up in arms that there was no distancing practiced
The FCO advice is not to travel so there would be no insurance in place.
I''m just as eager for things to open up, my daughter has given birth to our first grandchild (missed due to Covid) and are due to visit at the end of June (not likely to happen) but I am happy with the way the Spanish government have acted, happy that the borders are closed and happy that the 14 day quarantine is now in place and happy that me and mine have managed to protect ourselves so far.

Addressed to the OP.

Tony, play it by ear at the moment, the 14 day quarantine will be as short lived as the Spanish government can make it, but middle of June is being very optimistic.

Spain can not afford to keep the quarantine regime in place for one minute more than they need to, but they are correct to introduce it at the moment to preserve the nations health. Spain relies heavily on income generated by visitors from outside its borders and cannot do without said revenue.

We fully expect to travel to Spain as usual in September, but we drive there and not by flying. Chin up mate, glass is half full and all things come to those who wait. The future will be different, economies will contract and I should think that there will be quite severe austerity for quite a few years.

Good morning Tony,

We always sail into Bilbao or Santander. The costas can be reached in a day then, however we differ than some from a driving stance.... we travel in a motorhome and from our port of landing in Spain we tend to wander off towards Portugal and eventually to Spain via the Algarve and up the entire med coast eventually and end our trip via a route through France taking 5 to 6 months to do so.

But sailing to a Spanish port is ideal from a driving point of view. If you are going to the Costa Blanca then a route is Bilbao/Lograno/Zaragoza/Teruel/Valencia and then south. This route can be done toll free as far south as Alicante including the recently de-tolled AP7.
If you are travelling more south than Murcia then the route via Madrid is probably easier.

Hope this helps

As it stands now, Qatar have a flight Sydney/ Doha / Barcelona / Alicante on 31st May . They had NO Spanish bound flights at all for a while but they now seem to be hoping for permission to land. I can only keep my fingers crossed.....
