Good afternoon all,

I have my sister staying who would really, really like a decent paella. We don't eat it personally so wouldn't know which place to recommend around Torrevieja so could one of you lovely knowledgeable people please help us out here? 🤔🤔

Many thanks

Lynda

It will depend on your definition of decent. And also which kind you want

Paella de mariscos, shellfish, will be the most expensive, and frequently does not contain as much shellfish as is fondly imagined it will.

A mixta, mixed, will contain a little bit of everything, chicken, rabbit, some mussels, beans etc,

The most traditional Valencian rice dish contains mainly green vegetable, sometimes with a bit of rabbit.

Señoret is basically small prawns and squid sometimes, also higher priced.

Most Spanish restaurants can knock up a perfectly decent paella, but I think sometimes people may be a little disappointed as the dish may not contain as many ‘goodies’ as they had hoped. And never mention the word chorizo in conjunction with paella. It was basically a cheap way of feeding hard working people, lots of rice with whatever they had to add flavour to it. The burnt bits on the bottom are the best!

Find a decent looking Spanish restaurant and go for it.

As others have said, pick a decent Spanish restaurant- however, they won’t usually make paella for one and  it’s normally made to order with around a half hour wait and for min 2 people/whole table. And yes the crusty bits on the bottom are delicious!
