Even tho I've not been entitled to or claimed a bloody centimos and  in fact I ve never earned as much as 24k a year all my life !! So, why has such a high limits been set on people  to live here 🤔, to achieve what? I'm not a burden to their system -DONT get it ! I cant get any work in spain as I dont speak spanish well enough. I've contributed to the spanish economy for 40 odd years and I still do , I do shopping here, I go to Spanish bars spending my hard earned money , I've had about 3 jobs since I've been here (British businesses ) based in spain and I paid spanish taxes but theres no work here , so i trained in spain to be a carer and this is my reward , yeah thanks Spain -arseholes !

4 years ago residencia didnt have any criteria of earnings, if you worked for British businesses and didnt atleast have an N.I.E then both you and those businesses are/were working illegally, that doesnt bother me because so many people do it worldwide and its your business. But the UK voted to leave Europe in 2015 so you couldve applied for your residencia before all these new requirements came into effect that way you wouldn't have to worry

Posted On another thread, Permitted reasons from the British government to leave the UK, does not constitute permission to enter Spain.

Maybe I should try n enter spain via a rubber dinghy,  via the med , like thousands do , they re welcome arent they ! Another answer to your remark regarding , illegally or under the radar (as you so put it) , I've an NIE number, registered with the police  , I've an employment number , I've a padron -UNDER THE RADAR !? Also ,I've not given out any personal details , so dont get what ur on about ! So please no more negative remarks thanks

N.I.E's are only valid as long as you continue employment then they expire after 3years

Hi Martyn

I’m sure NIE’s are for life? Much as the National insurance number is in the U.K.? 🤪🥂

Hi, i was not "getting" at you, i simply wondered why you did not apply for residency last year when it would have been easily obtainable, apologies if i was not clear in my first post

I’m confused here. I’ve never worked in Spain and got my NIE eight years ago, in order to purchase my first property. It’s never been renewed and I certainly know it was valid just recently when I was requested to provide if 🤪🥂

Your N.I.E is a number you need to work and also to maybe buy something, dont know about a house because my family homes are in the UK and Italy, (although found out yesterday at the estate agents that spanish are allowed a higher percentage mortgage) but it definitely expires, however it can still be used in the same way an out of date passport or driver's license can be used as ID. But now with the new requirements i don't think the a4 N.I.Es are accepted anywhere, its residencia or T.I.E. Your residencia includes an nie but means you are now a resident of spain which gives you similar benefits as the spanish.

This is an extract from the guides set up by a well regarded (for his knowledge at least) member. It’s part of a longer document about NIE’s, but this is the part relevant here 🤪🥂

EXPIRY?

Once an NIE number is assigned, it's yours for life. In fact, even if you snuff it, it will never be assigned to anyone else.

The actual NIE certificate itself is, however, a little bit different. For most of the time I've lived in Spain, the certificates have not had an expiry date and, at the moment, do not do so.

However, there was a period a few of years ago when certificates were issued with a three months validity. In some ways this was understandable for anyone who ticked Residencia (residence), rather than Estancia (stay), on the application form, as anyone taking up residence in Spain for ninety days or more is legally required to apply for residency. Similarly, anyone who ticked Estancia could be regarded as being required to apply for a certificate of non-residency if they have a property here. Having once got either residency or a certificate of non-residency, then the NIE effectively becomes redundant.

So like i said a few years ago they were valid for 3 months? But i do have a friend who does it for a living and we do the translation for people aswel at times. The actual number may remain (iv actually had 2 because i lost mine and i got a different number and had to re apply instead of replace) but the paper for it isnt valid. But anyways we're deviating from the posters original post.
