Hi

we are driving from UK to Xabia via Calais later this month. We are in the process of getting pet certificates for our 2 dogs to travel through France. With the 2 certificates costing £300 (excluding vet fees and jabs/worming etc) do we need to pay another £300 to also get certificates to go through the ‘soft’ Spanish border? I intend to get Euro passports for the dogs as soon as we arrive in Xabia.

Thank you in advance

Claire, no the certificates are for all of the EU, definitely easier and an awful lot cheaper when you get your dogs EU passports, the only downfall is the frequency of the rabies boosters, uk every 3 years, Spain every 2 years, Valencia every year. They’ll still be a lot cheaper than having to het the Animal Health Certificate every trip.

hope this helps

Thank you so much for your advise. Our UK vet was saying we needed a certificate for both dogs to enter Spain from France. That would have cost another £300!!

Hi

I am living (as visitor from UK) in Denia for a few months and heading home just before Xmas. Can I apply for a Euro passport for my dogs? Any recommendations for vets in Denia to dispense necessary Tapeworm medication when we drive back?

You’ll be able to get Spanish pet passports before you return. We’re a bit further south than you so I’m afraid I don’t know any vets in your area, but when your out and about walking with your dogs speak to other dog walkers to get their recommendations, best to start the process sooner rather than later just in case theirs a problem with their chips and vaccinations. The Spanish vet will tell you about the frequency of the rabies boosters.

Thank you very much. Would I still need to have an Animal Health Certificate next time I travel to Spain?

No with EU pet passports you wouldn’t need an animal health certificate, as long as all your dogs boosters  jabs are up to date, our dogs will be given their booster jabs in Spain every April.

We bought 2 cats over on the ferry to Javea and had to get passports for both in U.K.  and then EU passports as well once here. It is expensive! . We used ‘Animalets’ Avda Ausias March, 9, 03730 in Javea who were excellent. Tel: 965086386

Hi Wendy

The advise you have on here is what we had, we travelled on one form and got our two eu passports in Javea with no trouble. We went to the vets on the Arunel, details below, they speak english and our two labs are now the proud owners of their EU passports! We had the one form to travel down and they sorted the tablets and filled in the part of the form needed for us to return to the UK last week. Next time we go they will use the EU passport. As already said, they will have to have the rabies jab annually in Javea.

Hope that confirms things and if you go to the Arunel vets tell them Molly and Jessie said hi 😁
