Hi,

I am a non resident with a property in La Florida and want to buy a car in Spain.

I think it is cost effective to bring a UK car to Spain and register it for Spanish plates etc (we already have a spare family car for this). I have read about the process and it seems there a few steps which my basic Spanish may struggle with.

Has anyone done this and used a company to do the whole process for them that they would recommend? And what did it roughly cost for their services.

Thanks in advance.

Try Spanish Number Plates - https://www.spanish-number-plates.com/

They will give you advice and a cost quote.

To register UK car in Spain would cost around 2000 euro.

You can add about 30% on to the value of the car as you are now required to pay VAT at 21% which wouldn't have been payable before Brexit. Unless of course you live in Northern Ireland.

Thanks for this.

One of the companies I have been dealing with have found that you can pay a third party £149 who will re register the car in Northern Ireland and so that that fee can be waived. Sounded an interesting loop hole.

There is always a loophole :) Have a read here. It is for Republic of Ireland but the same regs would apply throughout the EU. The important bit is having the correct paperwork. I did see from Irish Revenue that they would look for proof of ownership in Northern Ireland.
