That article was dated March 4th. before COVID changed everything.
No insurer is going to cover anybody for that and once the EHIC disappears on Jan 1st. 2021 a lot of people are going to find themselves in a position of never being able to go on holiday or travel abroad ever again.
What price that leave vote then?

I didn't notice the date of the article and I didn't get the impression that the OP was talking specifically about during Covid when most people will have to trawl their T&Cs to find out if they are covered, or not. The OP also didn't mention any pre-existing conditions which could be crucial, but once Covid is over, whenever that may be, there will be insurers who will cover the older traveller.

Cheryl, the original post was just a generic question, she wont be travelling until at least next April, the link you gave was very helpful and returned some great prices even after disclosing medical conditions...thankyou

Movington you presume much , the Lady was merely asking for general advice on Travel Insurance for elderly people.
Happily, Cheryl has been kind enough to provide some helpful information ,in that respect.
EHIC is an important issue at the moment ,however it was not mentioned within the question .
Your answer mentioning it did presume much ,as the official Gov.Uk. take on the issue is quote .
"Travelling to Europe from 1 January 2021Your EHIC might not be valid from 1 January 2021. Buy travel insurance that comes with healthcare cover before you travel. "
The important part of the statement being the term 'might not" , which ,unlike gour statement is not a definite statement indicating the EHIC will disappear.
On that one it's a 'wait and see', and so should not be prejudged.

This version of the the official Gov.Uk.web site entitled Visit Europe from 1 January 2021
is firmer on the matter and says:
Within it can be found this:
"Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will be valid up to 31 December 2020."
So yes wait and see by all means but don't hold your breath!

"This page tells you how to prepare if you’re planning on travelling to Europe from 1 January 2021. It will be updated if anything changes" so presumably is the latest info.Within it can be found this:

Movington, although things are still up in the air as regards final agreements during this transitional 11 months, there most certainly is still a chance some agreement may be forthcoming in relation to reciprical health cover to provide treatment similar to that presently available via the EHIC .
It is ,without a doubt, an awful state of affairs for the issue to be still remaining unresolved due to brinkmanship between the UK and the EU.
Latest news is it has to be sorted out by mid October to stand any chance of becoming law before the end of 2020.🤨
