Hi Everyone,

I’m looking at renting for 3 months from October. I to be walking/ cycling distance to a beach as I Swim most days. also to be near amenities.  I’m in my 60’s & also want to meet people & socialize. I’ve been to La Zenia on holiday & have also visited other places on day trips, I watch all the Chanel 4 programs on TV about living in Spain & I just can’t decide which place to stay. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Presuming you have a U.K. passport, make sure first of all that you obey the Schengen rules . You can only stay for a maximum of 90 days out of 180 days.

As you will be visiting off season, I would personally look for somewhere that is more residential than touristy. Those place tend to be a bit further away from the beach. The further away from the beach the more property you get for your money, so rental costs will be lower. That one of the few things that A Place in the Sun get right. Plus the bars in the residential areas have all sorts of groups and activities, so that’s a great way of meeting people.

Make sure you bring lots of warm clothing because at that time of the year the evenings are chilly. So make sure wherever you stay has heating.

I wouldn’t get overly excited at finding a place with a pool as come October most pools are far too cold to use. You may get away with going in the sea, as sea temperatures are generally higher than communal/private pools.

Great time of the year for exploring the area , daytime temperatures are around 20C and with all the tourists back at home, nowhere is overcrowded. No problems parking and the N332 and surrounding roads in Orihuela Costa  are nowhere near as busy as they are in August.

Try and book somewhere that gives you the option of cancelling after the first month, then if the area doesn’t suit you could move elsewhere.

You can’t beat Torre de la Horadada, it’s ideal for cycling/walking, it’s got everything you need within walking distance and anything you want five/ ten minutes by car. If you need contact details of letting agents let me kno
