I know that the famous Lucentum site is near Albufereta, on the eastern side of Alicante, but I can find no plan or map which shows how to get there by road. Surprisingly none of the websites gives access details.

I don't know where you've been looking, but this is the website giving how to get there:

If you also search for 'El Tossal de Manises' in Google Maps, you can ask for directions.

Thanks so much for your information. The web sites I visited, including Lucentum's own, simply said it was 3kms outside Alicante near Albufereta. From experience, I am sure there will probably be no road signs directing me to the actual location but your info. contains specific directions. I plan to go there tomorrow, 25th.

I noticed on the website that it doesn't give opening times for this month.

No, but the Alicante City & Beach website shows that for winter (ie: now) it is open from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 17:30. Closed on Mondays.

Pleased about that, and enjoy the visit.
