Spanish law says that a UK registered vehicle must an oval UK sticker no matter what’s on your plate, UK, GB or nothing.

Question as anyone been stopped by the police and even find, I was checked.

Thank you.

It's a EU requirement, not just Spain - no doubt the French police get in with their fines first (for those travelling via French ports/Eurostar) so leave slim pickings for the Spanish police.

French allow you to have the UK bit on your number plate and only a sticker on the back with UK if your number plate says GB.

No, I've not heard of anyone being picked up for it but I would imagine if you were in an accident they may check.

Hi,

I was answering the point about needing the UK sticker and the fact it is a EU requirement, not just a Spanish rule.

The following link will take you to official guidance from the UK government about driving in the EU and what sticker(s) you may be required to display on your vehicle:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in-the-eu#uk-stickers-and-number-plates

Although I have no knowledge of anyone having been fined etc. there is lots of information available online about what fines can be imposed by various EU countries should you not follow the rules.

That’s right try telling some people that.

I drove through Belgium and France into Spain with only my UK marker on the number plate. I had an oval sticker in the boot to put on in Spain (as John says this is only required in Spain and not in other EU countries) but I forgot to put it on. I spent 4 weeks in Spain without a problem but that may have been luck. I will try and remember on my next visit to Spain.
