Has anyone completed the Spanish driving test? I understand that I can do the theory in English, so no probs there.... however, the practical is done in Spanish only.... my Spanish is poor, how difficult do the instructors/examiners make it?

One of my near neighbours did it during the time they wouldn't recognise UK licences. The examiner taught him basic words like forward, turn, left, right, reverse and so on. Also gave him links to the theory test questions online.

He took the theory test in English after the instructor requested it first. The theory test was all in Spanish with the examiner but the basic words were fine.

He passed both first time after driving through the hell hole of driving that is Torrevieja.

However, UK licences are now recognised for exchange so don't have to do it. USA ones aren't as most states have their own driving licence.

Hi Mark,

What nationality are you?  If UK, you can now exchange your driving licence again - although there was a post-Brexit period when this facility was suspended, it was subsequently reinstated for UK licence holders.

Kind regards,

Kim

HI.... Thanks for getting beck to me. I am an Australian now living in Spain, prior to moving to Spain I lived in the UK for about 12 months. I exchanged my Australian Licence for a UK licence..... so when I got here on Spain I then swapped the UK licence for the Spanish licence.... initially everything was ok, but then the Spanish Traffic Dept got back to me advising that because my original licence was Australian and that there was no agreement with Australia they cancelled my licence. This was despite living in the uk for 12 months before getting here and holding a uk licence..... go figure?????

That would be because Spain changed your licence based on it being a UK one. They then wait (and it can take a long time) for a Certificate of Entitlement from the DVLA Swansea. UK would then state they had no record of you passing a test in UK and could not issue the certificate.

Bureaucrats, hey?
