My Sky box showing no satellite signal today on BBC1HD and BBC 2 HD channels. Anyone else getting same? . We have had no ITV 1 HD channel this visit either(since March) but able to continue on 803 ITV standard, but there's no BBC standard channels now so no alternatives. I dont pay for HD channels as only watch BBC1 and 2 and they are free, but would paying the HD subscription bring the lost ones here back?  Any help or advice gretly appreciated

Regards

Pauline

BBC 1 and 2 HD fine on my Freesat box. Also checked on non Freesat channels and both are there as well.

ITV HD we can only get if we use a postcode outside the London and SE area but then lose Ch4 HD so watch ITV on the SD channel.

As BBC are free to air it would be a bit cheeky of Sky to make you pay a subscription for them even in HD.

Thanks for reply, yes we watch Itv1 and ch 4 on 803 and 804 as these ITVHD channels not working but now BBC1 &  2 being lost today and no alternative. I,ve already posted question in March asking for any engineers to come and change our quad LNB but most dont visit our area and still waiting, so only 1box working instead of 2, that's bearable but no BBC thats dreadful!

Hi Pauline

we too have a Sky HD box and lost Bbc1 and 2. We used to be able to go to the old SD channel on 801 and 802 but they are now removed from Sky completely.

We have ended up (after numerous rescans etc) just using Firestick to watch these two channels

Hi

Over the last year or so, the BBC have been closing their Freesat SD channels to cut costs - concentrating on their HD channels. In the UK it's no problem(?), but the signal from the HD channels is weaker to the extent that it's much more difficult to pick up in Spain.  In theory, a bigger dish will help, but don't ask me how big!

btw - this has nothing to do with Sky. The SD channels had always been available via Freesat, whose signals have always been available to Sky boxes and many others.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Deirdre,

Thanks for your reply, after approx an hour the channels came back on so dont know what caused it. I knew about the sd channels being switched off and hadnt had any problems with BBC channels until yesterday but the ITVchannels have to watch on 803/4, as HD wont work but 5HD is ok. I dont understand "firestick" what it does, we dont have internet (not worth it at both home and Spain, use our Uk phone on O2 for data) does a firestick need internet?

I have after many requests, received replies yesterday regarding my faulty LNB and need to renew old cabling (earlier post here 5wks ago). Its been very hard to get a satellite company to visit my area and Oh boy are they going to charge over the top for it. To renew our quad LNB and replace 4 lots of cable total approx 70mts €600. High grade cable 100mts on ebay is £65 at dearest, LNB,s anything upto max £50. So awful lot of labour and fuel ?? One company telling me all LNB s no longer produced for my system, too old so LNB would be a refurbished one? Yet seem readily available on Ebay for around £30. I wish my Spanish were better as I,d try a spanish local company but would they know about Sky?? Do Spanish use satellite systems much?

As we,ve lasted 6wks on just 1 box outputs, I,m inclined to return next visit with cable and do it myself, but dont fancy changing LNB in case I muck up the angle of it. €200 is the price of replacing which I think is steep, but have to see if they will do just that without the cabling as €400 is definitely far too dear. We cant live without our Tv, s we,ve got square eyes if ever there was such a thing. Lol. Dont drink, Tv is holy grail!!

Unless you are a real ape you won't mess up changing the LNB. It's straightforward and easy, believe me because I've achieved it!

Thanks Steve

Our dish is 1.9mts, so big!  Sometimes new changes are not always the best, I dont want to go internet route, if I can just get another 5/8yrs out of our dish system that would do!

Thanks for that Relyat, I,m confidant to renew the cabling and this time protecting it from the sun, but have anxiety over the position of LNB as my hubby would give me hell if I lost the signals and life wouldnt be worth living. Lol. Also need to ensure I get the correct LNB as sat co. telling me my old LNB has been discontinued. Not too sure if true, they mentioned a quattro LNB or a multiswitch system needed for more outputs.

I'm not an expert.

I installed my dish on the wall and replaced the single LNB it had with a quattro and roughly aligned it.

The quattro LNB feeds four cables going to different points in the house with another cable taped to the LNB ready to be swapped over for a different part of the house. Summer and winter use.

It's really not difficult.

Having done all that, the weak signal that we have due to our specific location became untenable with the recent changes and I've now gone to Firestick.
