Hi All!

Well the lawyer we used, with power of attorney purchased the apt on our behalf so,ta ra! now we own a apt!!

BUT.... All we have to prove it though are a set of keys,no paperwork,in hand at least ,no final land registry docs from the notary etc

I dont know the way they deal in spain but would liked to have seen at least something on paper,I also dont have the NIE number

and have requested it from the lawyer,,well, just to have it .

we stayed for a week cleared out painted a bit and are back in April,hoping to have something tangable except just the keys.

Your experience please,did it differ much if you used POA?

Also bank, we now have the bank account yet no cards to go with it,nothing in the post to the uk and nothing in the bank in spain when we went in while we where there.

been ringing to no avail try again monday i guess!

Hi Albertto,

As you say you gave your lawyer Power of Attorney, did they apply for your NIEs? If so, they should have the original certificates for you (once you have them, never give up the originals, make sure you take several copies).

If you'd attended the completion meeting with Notary, you would have been given a copy of the "Nota Simple" - as your lawyer attended on your behalf, they should have this and be able to pass it to you (it should include copies of utility bills, paid by the vendor). Eventually (ours tooks 6 months), the original Deeds will arrive with your lawyer and they should advise you that they're ready for collection - assuming you bought your property outright, no mortgage?

Banking in Spain is like going back 30 years in the UK. Whilst many Spanish banks have good online presence, lots of things can only be done by going into your bank branch - collecting your bank cards will be one of these things, unless your POA allowed your lawyer to collect them on your behalf.

As I'm sure you've already concluded, you need to speak to your lawyer in the first instance.

Hi

Thanks Kim, I was actually due to be at the notary, but on the morning of flying over the time was brought forward so I was actually stuck at the airport in Alicante as the signing took place!

Met lawyer later on at the complex who handed us keys and left.

We have arranged to be back with him In April so hopefully as you say in time things will come to us.

Yes the banking is very erm..relaxed!

Cards were not there, in store when we visited, a few weeks back, supposedly posted to the uk on 20th December ,so are somewhere in ....I don't know where!

Will call again Monday.
