Hi

Has anyone converted from bottles to bulk storage (1000 ltrs) for their gas supply?  If, you have, or have investigated the change , would you be kind enough to share your experiences?

Problems, prices and verdicts will be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

We currently have propane central heating and 12 x 12kg propane bottles (in 2 banks of 6).

We plan some building works in the autumn. This will be a good time for us to switch to propane bulk storage. I haven't seen bulk butane (but maybe I haven't been looking).

There are some safety constraints around siting the tank and routing the pipework. After a site survey, we have been quoted 425 Euros to install a Mini 1000 tank ...

"... To carry out the installation the budget is 425€, this price includes the transport and unloading of the tank, installation and legalization of the entire installation in Industry, ready to fill ... "

I can PM you the company details, installation guidance diagrams and email etc. if you want.

As I understand it, the tank costs will be rolled up into the contract gas cost.

We also have propane central heating with 2 banks of 5 and don't plan to change this. It used to swap over automatically between the two banks but we stopped this so that we know when the first 5 run out so we swap it over manually and buy another 5 immediately, this way, when it "runs out" we always have 5 full bottles, much better than being in the middle of a shower when all 10 run out!
I can't remember why we decided not to have it in bulk, it certainly wasn't a lack of space but if memory serves me right it was something to do with the price of the smaller bottles being fixed by the government.

Hi Cheryl ... good point.

We have no issues with using the small bottles. We are very happy with them. We switch ours over in the same way that you do.

But my wife was ill last year, and we had an early (and temporary) taste of "old age" !

So our planned building works include supplementing external steps with ramps, making the plot lower maintenance .... and eliminating the need to mess about with gas bottles.

I changed from the 35 kilo bottles to a 1000 litre tank 6 months ago.  That was when I discovered that the Repsol delivery charge on every bottle was 20 euros and I have 8 of them...…     I contacted both Repsol and Cepsa for tank quotes.  Repsol wanted 5 or 6 hundred euros plus delivery plus installation.

Cepsa tank, plus delivery plus installation was FREE!!!!  Their price per litre of gas was the same as Repsol - what is there to choose?

Installation was exactly on time, professional and, including the fill, was completed in three hours.

I heartily recommend them!
