Did you not use a solicitor to help you gain your citizenship? If so they should have advised the procedure to obtain a Spanish passport. Before completing your citizenship you would have attended the embassy to return your passport - did they not advise you how to obtain a Spanish passport.

But surely because you are fluent in Spanish then you can look  (google) through the Spanish government websites, to complete the procedure. It should just be a case of ticking the box in saying you are a Spanish citizen and not a Spanish national and then producing your citizenship paraphernalia.  I don’t understand why it should be complicated or cost you money.I  certainly don’t understand why a solicitor would charge that amount for filling out one form.

I know when you complete a UK and an Australian passport application, you have to tick boxes as to whether you are a national, citizen etc and even though we all know Spain love their red tape I would have thought the procedure  would be similar.

Reading the original posters replies he does not have citizenship so cannot apply for a passport.

I have tried to help the poster but his attitude needs to change to get any help, don’t waste your time.

To obtain Spanish citizenship is a lengthy process, requiring all kinds of hoop jumping and before beginning the process you need to have been legally resident for ten years. You cannot just decide to apply for a Spanish passport, unfortunately.

Unless of course your're married to a Spanish national which makes the process much quicker though you would still have to renounce your British citizenship and you would lose the annual inflation on your UK state pension.  Jim

Why would you lose the annual increases in your pension?

And getting citizenship by marriage in Spain stopped in 1975 under the modifications to the Spanish civil code.

However, the time span can be reduced. You still have to sit the Spanish knowledge exam an show integration into the Spanish culture. You have to be married (not civil partner) and residing in Spain after taking out residency for a year. You can then apply for citizenship and this will take about 2 more years.

ImmigrationLawyersinSpain is a company that can help you through the process. at immigrationspain.es.
