Hi Everyone,

I feel it is my time to go back to the UK. I've had some serious health issues and need to be registered and treated in the UK asap.

Can anyone tell me how I go about getting my medical records transfered back to the UK?

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

There are no mechanisms for the exchange of medical histories between Spain and UK so your only option is to ask at your local Salud what, if anything, they can provide you with.

In any case when you register with a UK GP he/she will undoubtedly want to make their own assessment of your health issues and determine their own treatment regime for them which can be radically different to the treatment you are currently receiving.

In the interim I'd make sure you have an adequate supply of any medicines you are taking to tide you over, buying them from a pharmacy if necessary.

Good luck back in UK, going back is a decision many will be facing even if they refuse to acknowledge it now.

Never is big and far reaching word!

Extract below from Gov.uk on UK nationals returning to UK from Spain. I have also included a link at the end to Citizens Advice Spain where you will get a plethora of information:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-spain#returning-to-the-uk

Returning to the UK

Check the COVID-19 travel guidance for entering the UK.

Tell the UK and Spanish authorities if you are returning to the UK permanently.

To help prove you are now living in the UK, you should deregister with your:

  • local town hall (padrón)
  • the Spanish National Police (Residencia) (in Spanish)
  • your local health centre

If you get healthcare in Spain through the S1 form, you must contact the Overseas Healthcare Team on +44 (0)191 218 1999 or Seguridad Social to make sure your S1 is cancelled at the right time.

To move your pension or benefits payments to the UK, tell the International Pension Centre and the Instituto Nacional de la Seguridad Social.

Read the guidance on returning to the UK permanently which includes information on, amongst other things, bringing family members, tax and access to services.
