Hi guys. Sold uk property relocating alone just turned 50 don’t speak language as yet 🙈have a rental sept - Nov in Alicante and looking for a safe area with an expat community feel but not all tourists for my new forever home. Confused as so many areas to choose from. I drive so have options. I don’t want to be secluded but also don’t want to be in the thick of it. Any suggestions ? Limited budget of £80k property as need to leave enough for a business. What would work in that area ? Cleaning , man Friday help for the elderly or a quality food truck , tea rooms/ bakery or am I flogging a dead horse 🙈

Hi,

"What would work in that area ? Cleaning , man Friday help for the elderly or a quality food truck , tea rooms/ bakery or am I flogging a dead horse"

Definitely flogging a dead horse!! It will cost a lot of money to set up as self-employed. All those types of services have been tried. Cleaners, home help, maintenance men etc are all advertising weekly in the free papers. Many people who are out of work now due to the Covid virus are willing to do odd jobs for the price of a good dinner.

I wish you luck.

As tebo53 says even before COVID there was an oversupply of people doing (or seeking) the sort of work you outline, most of which BTW will be doing it illegally or 'on the black' as it's called.

In many cases it will more about keeping active and/or relieving boredom than actually earning money and because of that the sort of money they typically charge will price anybody else trying to work legally completely out of the market.

I suppose you might strike lucky and spot a niche for a legitimate business but don't underestimate the costs and complexities of starting one up and the ongoing overheads.

I too wish you luck, you'll certainly need it - and in spades!
