I am in the process of purchasing a property in a small development there. I don't know a thing about crime in the area or how well lit the streets are and until what time. I took one look around me and the beauty blinded me to any faults that may be lurking. I don't worry about crime in Spain. Street lights, though, could be important because there are narrow winding streets with blind curves and if you plan on venturing out into the many small bars and restaurants tucked away after dark, it would increase safety. I'll carry a flashlight and wear something reflective.
There is a tram that provides service to Alicante every two hours, even on holidays, so it is very connected to the all the transportation possibilities that Alicante offers, as well as access to top notch medical facilities and everything else you could want. Unlike many beach communities in Spain, Coveta Fuma is quaint with small homes tucked into hills. It's amazing. If security is top of your list of concerns, you might check out El Campello, which offers larger, secure buildings. That wasn't what I was looking for. The beaches are very clean--beautiful little coves nestled in rock formations. I love it. If you prefer long stretches of pristine beach, then check El Campello. Good luck with everything!
