Retirement Area

Hi
Planning on buying a retirement property as a permanent residence within the next couple of years. We are looking for an all year round area not to rowdy with a good mix of old and new town, walking distance to beach, shops etc and close to train/bus station as we will not have our own transport. I'd imagine there are quite places that meet this criteria but we would really appreciate some suggestions to enable us to narrow our search down before visiting.
