Hi good evening,

I’m new to the forum and I was wondering if anyone may be able to point me in the right direction of someone local (in El Campello ) who could possibly help me navigate my way to obtaining a NIE number. I’ve no idea which police station to apply for an appointment and my Spanish unfortunately is not anywhere near a level of form filling….  Although I am aware of translations, but I’m also aware get one thing wrong and that’s it, start the whole process again. I’d like to get it right first time. I travel out 6 or 7 times a year and I’m actively looking to purchase a property in the town. With that in mind I’d very much like to have all my ducks in a row ie bank account etc too… so when I actually manage to find the right place I’m all good to go, it would also benefit me having a Spanish bank account given the times that I travel to Spain. I’m due back in El Campello during October. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Ricky.

As a non-EU subject you will need a visa. Talk to your nearest Spanish consulate to check oput what type you really need. Teh it's time to approach the NIE and all the rest of burocracy waiting.

Why would he need a visa to get an NIE? He says he visits several times a year and makes no mention of being a permanent resident. You make it sound as if you can't get an NIE without having a visa which is totally false.

Right, to get an NIE you need to complete an EX15 form and make an appointment. This appointment can be at a UK consulate or at a National Police Station in Spain.

If you prefer, you can get a gestor to do it for you or there are many companies who specialise in completing these for you on your behalf. I don't know Campello but if you Google for it I'm sure many will come up. Do not use a solicitor as these can be very expensive.

But you do not need to obtain a visa to apply for an NIE.

To add to Marcliff's info

You mention a bank account, consider a Wise account, many of us non residents have abandoned the traditional Spanish banks, they certainly know how to have us non res pants down.

Good morning, thanks for the reply. I knew that I don’t need a visa for a NIE number. A Gestor though is a good shout that hadn’t crossed my mind tbh. I’ve just emailed one in Campello to enquire. I’ll not be using a solicitor and paying 400€ odd for something that’s essentially 9.40€ tax to pay at the bank and get that form stamped. I can download an English version of the EX15 form to fill out the Spanish one. So I might just have a go, get everything together copied with my photos and when I arrive next month I’ll go to the police station and see if they can give me an appointment during my stay. With it being that time of year and Campello not being what I’d consider as overly touristic I might just be able to wing it…… lol For banking I have looked at Wise.com which actually does on the face of it look quite good. I’m not sure, but I think also it has a correct IBAN that will allow SO/DD’s etc so that community fees/SUMA can be paid.

Cheers

Rick.

Why does the O.P need a visa? He is travelling to/from Spain 6/7 times a year, ie like a holidaymaker woukd, and no visa is needed for such travel. Different if they were planning to live in Spain permanently, but they haven’t indicated that.

I am in the same position in that I travel out in numerous occasions throughout the year (adhering to the 90 day ruling) and have had an NIE for 7 years - never had a visa - and don’t need one !!

Hi Rick

You are correct re the Wise account.

Their account is based in Belgium and therefore their IBAN is widely accepted, I and quite a few of our members pay our holiday home bills via Wise direct debit.

There are no running costs to the account, only very small fees for transactions ( not DD )

Good luck with the NIE.

Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the confirmation regarding Wise, I did think that was the case.

Thanks
