We've just bought a place in El Galan.
Which is the best car hire option from Alicante airport?

There is no such animal, one man's 'best' will be the next man's 'don't touch with a bargepole'
As you've asked for "best" as opposed to the usual 'cheapest' from long personal experience of hiring cars in many different countries my one piece of advice would to be forget brokers and price comparison sites and go direct to the hire company.
Also don't automatically dismiss the full insurance option, it may be a few Euros more but weighed against having a security deposit withheld for a tiny scuff or scratch which Sherlock Holmes would have had difficulty in spotting in the long run you could be quids in and without any of the worry and hassle every time you hand a car back.

I use Magnum or Lara cars
Off airport Companies who meet you at the airport with your car.
None of the shenanigans that you will encounter if you hire from one of the airport based Companies.
