Hi can anyone help?

I have a small patio with unglazed terracotta tiles that have got stained with grease/oil stains. I want to try and remove the stains before I seal the tiles. Any suggestions? The ferreterier gave me an ammonia type degreaser and I tried Agua fuerte, both cleaned the tiles but didn't remove the grease marks.

Thanks

Hiya guitarlady,

I have not got an answer for the exterior terracotta tile cleaner, hopefully others can help.

Can I ask you or others a description of what type and brand of sealer it is recommended o use and where it is available.  Leroy Merlin etc ?

Thanks in advance.

LeckyLes.

The sealer I have is PASO, protector abrillantador. Its specially for terracotta tiles. I bought it from the ferreterier in La Florida. I haven't used it yet so sorry can't say how good it is.

To try and remove the stains I'd first try things you've probably already got in your home.

Pour on some Coca Cola and leave overnight at least, while the phosphoric acid does its work. This used to work reasonably well on my concrete drive in the UK.

Also dissolve a dishwasher tablet in hot water and try that. And try a strong solution of bio washing machine detergent.

WD40 removed rust from tiles, maybe it would work for your problem also, give it a try if all else fails.

Also, after spending hours and hours and months cleaning our back garden tiled with these tiles, we eventually covered it with artificial grass over two and half years ago, brilliant, would recommend it to anybody.

Thanks Jim, certainly worth a try. I'd rather go that route that try anything too heavy handed to start with.

Bakingpowder mixed with a bit of water to make a paste then apply to stain, leave overnight, next day wash it off, this should work
