Taxi service for people with health needs
Hi - I'm awaiting cataract surgery and can't drive until after this has happened. Is there such a thing as a cheaper taxi service available for people with health issues? La Florida, La Zenia area.

Hello
I too, am awaiting cataract surgery & use taxis quite a lot - There is no reduced rate ( Torrevieja Radio Cabs) & I don't understand why there would be, taxi drivers have the same bills to pay as everyone else.
Cheers

Just thought there might be a volunteer car scheme or similar. Drivers volunteer their time and charge enough to cover costs which makes journeys a lot cheaper than a regular taxi would be. Eligible users join the scheme for a nominal sum and then pay individual journey costs. Maybe I’ll start one when cataracts done.

Have you thought about asking a friend or neighbour if they can take you?

Never heard of reduced rates for any reason, nothing at Benidorm.
However, if you speak to your doctor he can arrange for the ambulance service to collect/return you.

Why would there be? Maybe it is a service provided in the OP's home area in the UK. But in 45 years in Spain, having lived in various cities I have never heard of it.
Where I live in Gran Alacant I have a good network of friends and acquiantances who help each other. I broke my arm last summer and people took me shopping, washed my hair and showered me, I hardly needed to ask.
However I have seen and heard a few Brits, on and off this forum, say that they "like to keep ourselves to ourselves", which is very sad.
I would suggest to the OP that he makes friends with his neighbours.
Cheers, J

I expect the OP was thinking of the type of hospital car service that runs in many places in the UK, staffed by volunteers and funded (car mileage payments) by local councils. We have one in our village and there are many similar schemes in nearby villages.
Aitch.
