Residency
I am from the UK guess I should apply for residency before the end of the month?
Can I apply by myself and add my wife at a later date?
I have a solicitor here. Would it be best to use them.

Hello,
I would think with the huge backlog there is in getting appts. , it's unlikely you will get your residencia (TIE Card) before the end of the year. . . . However you don't need a solicitor but help from a gestor would be advised & much cheaper so nothing to stop you doing that today & getting the ball rolling. Your wife has to apply independently for her residencia (TIE card).
Hope that helps
Cheers

Hello,
I see from your other post about the Dr. you are non resident in which case you can't apply for residencia - you have to live here permanently to apply to become a legal resident.

Hi David,
Are you living permanently in Spain now? Part of the TIE (residency) process is to provide proof of regular monthly income (Eu 462) or a lump sum (Eu 5,540) in a Spanish bank account for the last 3 months - would you be able to do that?
The only chance you're likely to have of applying before the transition deadline of 31 December, is to make the initial applications online, for which you'll need to obtain an electronic certificate (also know as a digital signature) and a temporary Padron certificate from your Ayuntamiento (Town Hall). A gestor will be able to help you with these things and they'll be cheaper than a lawyer.
If you're not able to do this before the end of the transition period, applications by UK citizens from 1 January 2021 will be as TCNs (Third Country Nationals) for which there will be much higher income requirements. The other advantage of applying before the end of the year is that you would be protected by the provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement. From 1 January 2021, you lose your rights to reciprocal healthcare via the S1 scheme (whether you're a pensioner now or when you do start to draw your State pension) and you will not receive uprating on your State pension.
You also need to bear in mind that you become fiscal residents after 182 days in Spain, in each tax year, and will have to submit tax returns for your worldwide income in Spain. For the first 5 years of your Spanish residency, which are classed as temporary until you achieve 5 years' "settled status", you are not able to leave the country for more than 182 days without voiding your residency.
Apologies for the detail of my response, I'm just a little concerned that your opening statement, "I am from the UK guess I should apply for residency before the end of the month?" sounds like you haven't given the implications too much consideration - and apologies if my assumption is incorrect, but depending on your circumstances, e.g. property and assets outside of Spain, I'd recommend you taking tax advice before committing yourself.
Kind regards,
Kim

Hello
You have to live here permanantly to get residencia...You need 3months bank statements showing a monthly income of €462 or €5,540 per person ,lump sum and regular activity i.e. payment of utility bills, shopping etc. These must be stamped & signed by the bank.
FYI the amount required will change from Jan. 2021 to €2100 monthly or €26,000 lump sum.
The whole procedure takes 2/3 months to accomplish as appts are scarce, so it does seem unlikely that you will manage to do this until 2021
