Two questions. First, do the recently introduced Spanish car air quality stickers substitute for the French ones? Knowing the French, I guess not.

Secondly, the only zone I'm likely to cross in the near future is Bordeaux, and even then only around the ring motorway on my way north. Am I right to assume a sticker is not required to go around the motorway?

You cannot use a Spanish emission sticker in France. You can, however, use a French one in Spain (good old joined up EU).

You cannot get a Spanish emission sticker for a foreign plated car in Spain. You can in France (joined up again).

Bordeaux has a webpage on the zones but states it is only effective within the ring road.

If I'm right from the journey we did last year the only place you needed an air crit was travelling through Rouen. (I did not apply for one I found out too late to apply for it) ….. there are signs saying you are entering a crit air area. We also travelled around Bordeaux and I assumed you did not need one as not travelling into the city. I did not see any signs.

I purchased a sticker through the official site that Marcliff mentions (be careful to avoid scam websites that charge large sums for one, they only cost a few euros). I was driving through Rouen so need one but the sticker comes in handy for the future as I use different routes through France.
