Hi all, it seems so convoluted and tricky to obtain a fishing licence in Spain. There seems to be a lot of different advice, from having to go to the ministry of agriculture, to passing a Spanish test! Does anyone know of a simple method to obtain a fishing licence? I want a shore licence for sea fishing - thanks!

Try checking out this link, sounds like this may be the easiest way. I'll try myself when I get back to Spain.

Thanks for that. I saw this before, but wrongly assumed it was only for Canaries/Balearics. I will give it a try!

I haven't heard of passing a test,  the licences are issued by the ministry and it is a bit of a faff to get but is perfectly achievable in a morning.

There are two permits available, one for fresh water and one for sea fishing. Both available in Alicante to do yourself, you need ID, and it's a bit of a pain but not too difficult, you have to complete the forms, go to the local bank, ( I can't remember the price but your fuel will be more to get there ) pay the sums then return for the completion of paperwork and the licence is then issued. Probably an hours job.

Alternatively most of the local tackle shops will do it for you at a charge. Easy enough to DIY.

  • Ministerio de Medio Ambiente
    At: Calle Churruca No29, Alicante
  • This is about 400 meters inland from the new bus station in Alicante

Thanks very much for the info. Probably more cost effective to pay the extra and get it done by a third party. Like you say, the fuel alone to/from Alicante will be more for me, than getting a third party to do it. Appreciate your response.

You can easily obtain a fishing licence for around 11 euros, might have gone up, they last for about three years.   Any fishing tackle shop should be able to get one for you, take your passport, NIe if you have one.   There is a fishing shop in San Fulgencio that does it for  you but you might find a fishing tackle shop nearer to where you live.   You will get it back within about three days or thereabouts, good luck.

You didn’t state what Licence you need, freshwater or sea?

However, if you go to Torrepasca fishing tackle shop in Torrevieja they will get them for you. Goggle them. Please note there are certain days/times they do licences as the lady who speaks English is only in on certain days.

Hi, thanks for that. I did state what type of licence I need in my original post. I emailed Torrepasca yesterday and I will be making arrangements for them to do the licence as its cheaper than the online companies.

If you get a digital certificate and digital signature you can do it yourself online. This is the cheapest option as your not paying for anyones services. However, the site is all in Spanish and can be a little complicated.
