The way that water bills are structured means that the fixed fees, plus taxes, are usually the larger part of the bill, and that consumption is only a small part of it. Compared to my last bill, I'd say that yours seems a bit on the high side, but there should be a breakdown of charges on the bill so you can see for yourself.

Also see if the bill has a charge for basura - refuse collection. This is sometimes collected by a water company on behalf of the municipality.

Sorry, but it doesn’t sound right to me. I know I’m in north CB but my last bill (June) , for three months, in an empty property, was 19.39. 🤪🥂

Hi,

I agree with this and Jim. We have a 2 bed house with 2 of us and our last water bill was 48€ , so I would have thought with no one living in your apartment it would be alot lower, even with the standard charges.

To give an example from my May Hidraqua bill:

Water supply service charge €23.70 + 10% IVA

Meter rental €1.35 + 21% IVA

Sewage system charge €6.84 + 10% IVA

That's €35.23 without using any water.

Because Hidraqua charge me for basura collection, you can add another €13.25 to the above, making a fixed charge of €48.48 for three months.

In Orihuela Costa there is the additional practice of adding your rubbish collection standing charge to the water bill as well rather than being billed separately once a year.  Sounds like all standing charges only.  If this is your first bill it may be for more than the usual 3 months so check the exact dates on the bill to see what period it has covered.  It actually doesn't sound excessive, especially if for slightly longer than a standard bill.
