Hey there,

Working from home remotely here in Orihuela Costa and got sick. Since it’s getting over three days already, I need a sick note that I can provide to my employer. I am a EU resident and my insurance card says “eu insurance card” and as far as I know it covers all over the EU.

Does anyone know if I’ll be able to get a sick note from the Medical Health Center in Orihuela Costa (the one at C/ del Mar 1)?

I have NIE but not a Spanish resident, if that matters.

Thanks!

Are you working from home for a Spanish company and are you both making Social Security contributions to the Spanish authorities?

In the meantime you might find the contents of this link helpful:

What do you mean by "eu insurance card" and where did you get it?

If you mean a UK EHIC then as a Spanish resident you are not entitled to use that in Spain.

Like I mentioned, I'm not a Spanish resident and it's an EU's country EHIC card (same country as I hold residence in). I came here for two weeks and got sick on the first week.

Assuming your employer knows you are working in Spain (rather than working in your "base" location), then I'd be minded to ask them what do they need (if anything).

After all, you wouldn't be claiming sick pay against the Spanish legislation - you'd be claiming it against whichever EU country is your normal "base".

https://www.acas.org.uk/sick-leave

Self certify for the first 7 days.

After that cannot see how you could possibly get a further note from a (UK by implication) 'registered healthcare professional' whilst in Spain.

Go to the nearest Salud with your EHIC they can only say no which I am sure they won't. There are lots of Private Practices. I am sure there are some near you if you do a search. Here are just 2 in Torrevieja.

iMED Torrevieja opposite Habaneras Shopping Centre is a walk-in Clinic

This Practice is opposite the Park of Nations in Torrevieja
