Hi we have seen a new build we are interested in and the estate agent has put us in touch with a solicitor but we are wary of this practice and should get an independent solicitor. Can anyone recommend one they have dealt with?

Thanks

Carol

We used Abaco for our house buying and also still do as the fiscal representatives for our annual Spanish taxes. They are very good at communication and advice. Even if you don't use them the website has some very helpful information.

Ps I would never use a solicitor who does not have a website showing all that they do. It's important for them to communicate by email and not to have to rely on phone calls when back in the UK. I tested out solicitors when we were choosing ours by emailing a few and asking for quotes and also some questions and it certainly gives an idea of their language skills and how quick they reply.

Out of interest do any of the above mentioned solicitors have websites?

Depends on the solicitor. How long have they been in business. Do you know a solicitor yourself - if not its the same chance all round

I used a solicitor recommended by my estate agent when I sold my home.  They told me they sold my home for 150,000 euros.  I found out from the buyer they bought my home for 165, 000 !!   I did not get my money back from them.  I was too ill to fight for it at the time, but I did confront both the agent and the solicitor.  Never received a penny back from them!!!

Yes - Never a good idea to use any solicitor recommended by an estate agent..it's a conflict of interest. A solicitor should work independently for the buyer or seller and not be connected to the Estate Agent.

No worries

Most of us on these forums will probably be asking a lot of repetitive questions and the main biggie seems to be house purchase Etc. and we have had a lot of help from that company and will always recommend them to anyone.
