Hi All

What is the system with EHIC cards.    I have permanent residency in Spain but no property in UK.    Can I still apply for EHIC Card in UK using my daughters address.  Or do I have to apply for EHIC Card in Spain as I would likely be using it when returning to uk.     I have looked at the website but it is very confusing.    Thanks

Patrick

Hi Patrick, I don't know if you're an OAP like Ray and myself, but if you are then do what Ray says. If you're too young to qualify for an S1, then I'm afraid that you aren't entitled to an EHIC-E.

Ray - we should be OK - I can't see Brexit affecting our entitlement to an EHIC-E to use in the UK, but it wouldn't entitle us to emergency cover in other EU countries.

Thanks Jim.      Will apply forthwith.   I needed to see a doctor in UK with a severe chest infection requiring steroids and anti biotics.     They looked at my EHIC Card as if it was something from Mars.   In the end they let me be a temporary resident on my sons address and then sent me to a doctor 20 miles away.  So if I had needed urgent hospital treatment my EHIC Card wiuld have been no good!     As you say BREXIT is unlikely to change anything for us OAP.    If Spain tries to chuck us out I will hide my British passport and produce my Irish one!    Thanks again    Patrick

Hi Ray

I thought everyone had an Irish Grandma.
