Ducted hot/cold air heating and cooling system - any comments?

Hello,
Does anyone have any experience of ducted hot/cold air heating and cooling a villa?
We are keen to hear any feedback you might have. Is it effective? We find the individual inverter units can seem like a hairdryer blowing into the room and cause dry and sore eyes - is the ducted system any better? Also, is it possible to close off vents in unused rooms so the ducted air system isn't heating unused bedrooms in the winter? How does the running cost to keep a home comfortably warm with the ducted system - with air source heat pumps - compare with other types of heating?
